Visual and Performing Arts Philosophy

Last item for navigation

The arts are essential for the personal, intellectual, and social development of each individual child. They provide the creative, perceptual, aesthetic, critical, and historical dimensions necessary to balance the school experience. A well-developed arts curriculum is an integral component of a comprehensive education.

We believe that all children possess a capacity for artistic expression. Students will explore and experience the various disciplines of the fine and performing arts through both formal and informal opportunities. Instruction is student-centered and results in the development of:
  • aesthetic awareness
  • creative problem-solving and decision making
  • self-confidence
  • cooperation and teamwork
  • leadership abilities
  • knowledge of one’s own culture and history
  • multi-cultural awareness
  • increased achievement in other content areas
  • enriched quality of life

It is the intention of the Colts Neck Township School District to provide a thorough understanding and appreciation of the visual and performing arts for all children. Arts education is interdisciplinary and infused into instructional design.
